Carp Town Embraces Carp Fishing Championship

City Loves Carp Nickname | ![]() |
Two Rivers became the official home of the Wisconsin Carp Fishing Championship in 2009. The quality of the fishing was the reason; it was just coincidental that the city’s derisive nickname has been Carp Town since sometime in the 1940s (a name used mainly by those from nearby Skunk Hollow, also known as Manitowoc).
Never one to miss an opportunity for a festival, the Two Rivers Business Association, main sponsor of the tournament, organized Carp Fest with live music, children’s games, all the usual events that go along with a fun festival.
Steamed Carp
On a platter, place the whole carp (scaled and cleaned out) and top it with fresh ginger strips and scallions. Add soy sauce and drizzle with sesame oil. Steam fish until done. You can garnish with fried ginger strips and cilantro. Incidentally, use the same ingredients with other fish, like sea bass or cod.
